BABBLE

2004 Babble Slam Champion!

Congratulations to Steve Smart, the Babble Slam Champion for 2004! It was a tight contest on the night and the last round came down to a battle of wits between Steve Smart and David Prater. Steve is a worthy champion as I'm pretty sure he has competed in pretty much every Babble Slam series.

The Babble Slam series will return next year, probably in Sept and hopefully without the hassles of venue double bookings. I'd like to take the opportunity here to thank everybody for their kind support of Babble, which went from being a weekly event to a monthly one this year.

After a shaky start this has proven to be a big success. With sixty plus punters attending every month it's been a fantastic environment for readers and audience alike.

I think this has been partly due to the kind support of Cordite Poetry Review too who have been publishing the recorded works of Babble open micers over the year.

Many thanks too to my co-convener for most of the year Mr Justin Treyvaud. Jdog has hung up his Babble hat now and I thank him greatly for his contributions to making Babble such a fantastic and well supported event in 2004.

I'd also like to thank the Babble crew, Cat and Anthea on the door and Claire on sound, my DJ's and all those who helped with the slams. Babble will be taking January 2005 off, but will be returning on Wednesday 1 February, as always held upstairs at Bar Open, 317 Brunswick St, Fitzroy.

In the meantime have a great festive season.
